University of Wisconsin – Madison founded in 1848. University of Wisconsin – Madison is a public, land-grant institution. UW-Madison is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. UW–Madison offers a complete spectrum of liberal arts studies, professional programs and student activities. Its comprehensive academic program offers 134 undergraduate majors, along with 153 masters degree programs and 114 doctoral programs. Madison is organized into 20 schools. In addition to undergraduate and graduate divisions in agriculture and life sciences, business, education, engineering, human ecology, journalism and mass communication, letters and science, music, nursing, pharmacy, and social work, the university also maintains graduate and professional schools in environmental studies, law, library and information studies, medicine and public health, public affairs, and veterinary medicine.
